For most, choosing a subject for a small report or eBook is a major stumbling block. This can be a make or break decision. So, let's look at some basic requirements:

1. The Subject Must Interest You.

Don't write about something you're not really interested in -- just because you think it's a hot subject. If you have no interest in it, writing about it will become a real chore and your product will suffer.

You also need to think about the long term. In Most cases you probably won't end up just writing one e-book, but many. In order to achieve long-term success you will write many e-books, articles, and maybe even do seminars. You don't want to be stuck with a subject that doesn't grab your interest. Pick a subject that really excites you and you'll be inspired to keep writing.

2. Match Your Strengths.

You'll be fighting an uphill battle if you write about something you know very little about. You want to have an edge in the marketplace by focusing on your strengths.

Take a long, hard look at yourself and decide what those strengths are. What experience do you have? What education did you get? What skills Have you developed? What are you good at? What do others come to you for advice about? What do you know well?

Tip---> Get your friends and family to help you with this exercise. They can often see things about you... that you can not see yourself.

3. Must Be Interesting To Others.

You need to write e-books that other people want to buy -- and are buying. There's no use in creating an e-book that nobody will be willing to pay for. Take a look at the market. Are people already spending money on the kind of information you are writing about? If they're spending money on books for a certain subject, they are always ready to buy more.

People hardly ever buy just one book about their hobby or interest. Whether it's golfing, gourmet cooking, or investing in stocks... the avid fan will buy a mountain of books on their favorite subject. They'll especially buy a new book that gives the information in a better way.

Tip---> One great place to do a little market research is amazon.com, just browse through the bestsellers section and see what people are buying. This is a great place to generate new ideas as well.
